The verdict from the long running inquest into the deaths of the Kahui twins is to be released this week.

The report, originally understood to have been “damning” of Chris Kahui, had been due for release last Christmas but was blocked after Kahui’s lawyers mounted a legal challenge.

The case sparked a storm of controversy, beginning with a so-called “wall of silence” in the wake of the twin’s murders – which set the scene for media coverage and public perception of the case. In fact, the “wall” claim was a PR stunt by police at the time to put pressure on one of the extended Kahui family members to talk. Everyone else, including Macsyna King and Chris Kahui – had cooperated with police from the start.

Legal sources told InvestigateDaily last Christmas that the Coroner had independently reached a similar conclusion to the book “Breaking Silence” released after hearings finished last year. The Coroner’s role meant he was not allowed to read the book.
